Happy New Year!!!

January 2005

Happy 2005!  Mom, Dad and I drove to Naples, Florida after visiting Bay Village for Christmas.  It was a pretty uneventful experience, though Mom is still pretty morning sick.  The further South we went, the more layers of clothing we got to remove.  It was so refreshing to arrive in warm, sunny weather.  We were greeted by my Smith family Aunts, Uncles, cousins—and of course, DT and Opa.

The pool was definitely my favorite place.  I would cry when Mom and Dad would take me out (after I was wrinkled).   I would then say, “bye, bye pool.”  I wasn’t so sure about the sand on the beach, though.  As soon as I stepped foot on it I said, “Eeewww!  Daddy, hold you!”

Soon after we arrived in Florida, I began to feel sick.  I spiked a wicked high fever and got a big rash.  Mom and Dad took me to the emergency room where they diagnosed me with Scarlet Fever.  I was sick for almost a week (even on New Years Eve and day).  Mom and Dad had to give me baths in the middle of the night to cool me down (I did NOT like that at all!).   After I was finally feeling better, all of my cousins had gone back to Indiana to go to school.  Mom, Dad and I stayed with DT and Opa (and Uncle Matty) for 2 more weeks in Florida.  I was so glad to be feeling better because I could go swimming again.

When we arrived back home, I was not sleeping very well in my crib (not well at all!).  While we were out shopping one day, we went in to Pottery Barn Kids and I immediately climbed up on to the toddler bed and said, “Mommy, Emma’s bed.”  Dad and Mom bought it on the spot, disassembled my crib and I have been sleeping much better ever since.  For the first several nights I didn’t realize that I could get out of bed.  It was only a matter of time before I figured it out, though.  The way Mom and Dad realized I figured it out was one night I started crying, so Daddy opened the door to my room and I shot out around his legs.  It startled him, but he thought it was funny.  Now when I wake up I go to my door and knock and call out for help.

This month I had a little surgery to correct a blocked tear duct I had in my right eye.  I loved the yellow surgical jammies they wanted me to wear.  I went right back with my doctors when it was time for the operation.  15 minutes later the doctor told Mom and Dad that all went well and that they could go be with me in recovery.  I was pretty groggy, but was glad to see Mom and Dad.  When it came time for them to change my clothes to go home, even though I was still groggy, I cried for my yellow jammies.  So far the surgery has been a great success and I no longer have a weeping eye.

This month, when Mom was only 7 weeks pregnant, Mom, Dad and I went together for her ultrasound.  We were able to see this perfectly formed little, tiny baby!  The baby was moving its arms and legs independently and was so cute and active.  I was able to have a picture of our baby and after we left the ultrasound room I was showing everyone my new baby!!

This month I’ve been full of surprises for Mom and Dad.  They read me a book “Perritos,” 2 times.  It is a book in Spanish about counting dogs.  One day I carried the book in to Daddy and said, “Daddy, uno, dos!”  I wanted him to read the book again.  I now count up to 15 in English and 10 in Spanish.  I love counting.  I count everything.  I speak whole sentences now and continue to amuse my family.  Whenever my Mom or Dad enter a room I am in, I very enthusiastically say, “Hello, Mommom!”  or “Hello, Daddad!”  It makes them smile.  I am very affectionate and enjoy giving lots of kisses and hugs.

Reading is my favorite activity.  I ask Mommy and Daddy to read and read and read.  I am looking forward to going to a tumbling class with Mommy when she is feeling better.  I like the computer—especially Elmo’s world.  I look forward to being able to play on the computer by myself when I am a bit bigger.

That’s all for now!  Blessings to you all!
