February 2005

Whew!  Was THIS a busy month!  We had a very happy Valentine’s Day (thanks to Daddy who cut out and pasted hearts all over our house!).

There were lots of birthdays to celebrate this month.  My cousin, Mary McGraw, turned sweet 16, my Opa Smith turned (well, I don’t think he would appreciate that revelation), and my Aunt Mollie Smith had a birthday as well!  We had a triple celebration one evening and had a terrific time with everyone together at Dt and Opa’s house.

We visited with some of our friends in February as well. My Mom's good friend, Marcia Jay, gave birth to her son Carter this month. Dad, Mom and I went to visit Aunt Marcia, Uncle Jim and Carter. He is really cute and has lots of stylish hair! Mom, Dad and I also drove to Batesville to visit two of Mom's friends from college, Ms. Felicia Trujillo and Mrs. Elizabeth Enders who brought her 3 children, Ella, Terese and Brendan. We had a nice lunch at the Sherman House and played and played. That was the first time Mom had seen her friends in several years, so it was a real treat!

Mom, Dad and I had a very special experience on February 16th.  There were 6 pro-life legislative bills in Committee for the State of Indiana that day and a lobbyist friend of Mom’s was hosting a luncheon for the Indiana legislators.  She wanted to have a live ultrasound performed for the legislators and asked Mom to be the patient!  There was a bed in the front of the room where Mom was being scanned and there was an enormous screen where my little SISTER was really showing off (that's right, she's a girl! Yahoo)!!  She was sucking her thumb, scratching her ear and flipping all around.  The legislators were amazed that such a tiny, tiny baby was so well formed and so active.  As soon as the image of the baby came up on the screen, I shouted, “BABY!”  It was a very cool experience.  My Daddy has some video footage of the ultrasound on the web.  Make sure the volume is turned up on your computer, and just click on the link HERE or at the bottom of this page.

Daddy and Mommy took me to my first cinema movie!  We went to see Pooh’s Heffalump movie.  I highly recommend it.  To see Pooh and Tigger on that big screen was so fabulous!  I was enthralled the whole time!  I even had a huge bucket of “pop pop” and a cup of “cote!” (Coca-Cola company, please forgive me).

We went to Cleveland this month for my Giddoo’s 70th birthday and for my cousin Daniel’s baptism.  It was a nice time together with everyone.  My great Uncle Richard came from Boston and Uncle Eddie and Aunt Roula came from Houston.  We had a bowling party for Giddoo and I discovered a new passion—video games!  I was sitting in this racecar video game and acted like I was really driving!

Unfortunately Mom and I came down with a mean case of the flu.  We both had to go to the emergency room (mom to get some I.V. fluids).  I had a febrile seizure and nearly scared my parents to death.  I guess my body just doesn’t react to fevers very well, so my mom and dad are going to keep an even closer eye on me (oh great!).

Well, the speaking lid has blown wide open for me.  My parents crack up at the phrases I come up with.  I like to ask for things politely, but I add a “NOW” to the end of my request sometimes.  I’ve become a little bossy with my toys.  I like to say, “No, guys!” "MINE" and “Right now, baby!”  I like to try things myself so I say, “Emma will do it,” or “Emma will read it.”  My cousin Mary taught me to count to 10 in French.  I say, “Un, deux, trois, quatre, MMMEEEOOOWWW!”

I really enjoy figuring things out.  For example, my Pooh soundtrack was playing in my room but I wanted to be on the porch with Mom and Dad.  I turned the baby monitor on in Mom and Dad’s room, disconnected the power cord and realized it was still working (on batteries).  Then I proceeded to turn up the volume and enjoy my music from my parents’ room.  I walked around the house and found that when I took the monitor in to my room there was too much feedback.  I took my little plastic chair, grabbed a good book and my monitor and went on the porch with Mom and Dad.  I turned up my music, sat down and read my book.  Mom and Dad just looked at one another and started laughing at my ingenuity.

I absolutely love Dora the Explorer.  My favorite character is Swiper the Fox.  Mom will say, “Swiper no swiping!  Swiper no swiping!” and I’ll say in a southern twang, “Oh maaaain!”

Another recent development in the Abdalla house is that I now prefer sitting at the table with Dad and Mom and NOT in my highchair! Even though I can hardly see what's on my plate and can't see what's in my bowl, I still insist and feel like a very big girl!

Thanks for checking in this month! Hope you all are well.
